Mother-in-Law Debut at A+ Works of Art

On 4 August 2023, artist George Burchett’s Mother-in-Law project held her public debut at A+ Works of Art in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

More than two years in the making, it is believed to be the first time that an original series of art works has been launched simultaneously in four dimensions: 3D physical sculptures and Augmented Reality (AR) renderings, along with 2D original prints and digital renderings.

The invention of photography was a disruptive technology that transformed the art world, leading to a flourishing of new art movements as artists reinvented themselves well beyond being creators of portraits and landscapes. The rapid evolution of new technologies such as 3D printing, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality (VR) has created the opportunity to allow single art works to exist simultaneously in both the real and virtual worlds. This opens up all kinds of possibilities. Mother-in-Law is a blazing that future trail.

Born in Vietnam, in the studio of Australian artist George Burchett, the Mother-in-Law series has become truly global in nature, with individual pieces spanning from Indian Goddesses and Japanese anime to 1960s French design and American automotive icons. All were on display at A+ Works of Art, in 3D printed form, as well as original 2D prints and Augmented Reality (AR) demonstrations.

Collectors, media, artists, museum leaders and curious friends joined to get an early look at this future world.
